Profibus IO-Link Expansion Module and Discrete Hub
Balluff IO-Link solution provides low cost and simple integration for building or retrofitting a network.
Simple, Low Cost Expansion of Profibus Networks
Balluff’s IO-Link Profibus solution provides a means to lower costs by reducing the number of nodes and network cordsets in a system, as well as reducing the time and effort it takes to wire and integrate the system. The standard use of M12 connectors and GSD files makes establishing a Balluff IO-Link solution in the field and at the PLC a simple task.
Features:
- Reduced wiring time and cost using standard
3-conductor cordsets
- Reduced routing of stiff, difficult to work
with network cabling
- Seamless integration into existing or new networks
- No proprietary network devices or cabling used on a Balluff IO-Link solution
- Balluff IO-Link supports customers’ proven topologies to protect existing network investment
- IO-Link provides quicker boot up times than conventional networks

| Today’s robot applications are requiring more complexity on the robotic end effectors. This requires more I/O points which leads to a problem of how to manage the I/O back to the controls cabinet. Balluff’s low cost, light weight discrete sensor hubs can be mounted directly on the end effectors, while standard flex/torsion-rated low cost TPE jacketed M12 cordsets run down the robot’s arm to the IO-Link expansion module unit mounted at the base of the robot. |

OEMs are looking for new ways to improve machine capability while lowering the cost per point for I/O. One Balluff IO-Link expansion module with four discrete sensor hubs can replace five standard PROFIBUS input modules. Each discrete sensor hub can be placed up to 20 meters away from the expansion module. The IO‑Link solution can reduce cost per point by at least 15-20% while also lowering the total cost of cabling by using less network cabling and more standard M12 cordsets. |
