RFID for Storage and Retrieval
Many material handling systems today can employ tracking and traceability methods like Balluff’s industrial RFID. It can be used to provide information such as the contents of bins, totes, and skids as well as their location both in and out of the storage and retrieval systems. The advantage of bar code tracking is its cost, but bar codes need to be replaced continually and they cannot carry changing data with them, making them limited and vulnerable. RFID provides the same basic data of bar code, but can also carry specific data associated with the container contents like a pedigree. RFID can also be re-used and re-written electronically, are significantly more durable and reliable, and eliminate errors and lost productivity associated with bar codes, especially when storage containers are removed from the storage and retrieval system for use.
Start your selection here: Step 1: How are you trying to track?
- On bins or totes
- Robust, flexible, environmentally rugged - BIS C
- Lower cost, low memory capacity, read-only options - BIS L
- Long range, ISO compliant, high speed - BIS M
- On skids
- Robust, flexible, environmentally rugged - BIS C
- Lower cost, low memory capacity, read-only options - BIS L
- Long range, ISO compliant, high speed - BIS M
Step 2: Select your data carrier (using links from tables below) Step 3: Select read/write heads (using links below each chart) Step 4: Select processors (using links below each chart)
