The BWL should be seen as a housing variation of the BGL, making our entire line of self-contained thru-beam sensors more flexible with respect to sizes and form factors. The advantage of this new housing style is the larger opening angle of the forks. With a larger opening angle it is now possible to present objects to the sensor from multiple directions.

Balluff offers two types of BWL sensors:

	BWL Heavy Duty Series Rugged corrosion resistant steel housing withstands abuse High power IR light burns through heavy contamination Easy installation See all Heavy Duty BWL sensors

The L-shaped sensor can be used in a variety of applications where a fork style sensor (BGL) would be too large or inappropriately configured:
- Position verification
- Parts dimension verification
- Parts counting in assembly lines
- Level monitoring in tanks
- Label discrimination with transparent substrates 
- Feed verification on automatic assembly equipment
- Parts sensing on conveyer rails and conveying belts
